"you sure are kind..."

A fight has broken out in the research center.

You watch, motionless from surprise, as Sion, your best friend, begins to fight with the Great Mage, the alliance that you had so carefully made during this past week. Sion fights with a veracity and focus that you haven't seen in him in years, an all-consuming flame in his eyes.

(You're not actually motionless, however, you're simply biding your time. And the only moment that surprise really does come across your expression is the moment that your lifelong friend turns to you with those fiery eyes, ready to kill.)

'Wait right there,' he says, cold as a blizzard. 'I'll take my time killing you later.'

Huh?

But it doesn't matter. Before you can speak up to get to the bottom of his feelings, the Great Mage calls out, and the demon encases Sion in darkness. You're still motionless. No one is looking at you.

And in that moment, you know exactly what to do. By the time that they realize what has happened, you've already begun your true mission: to betray the Albas and set up the stage so that they can be killed. You punch the lights out of the demon with ease, blocking his abilities. About three hours, you estimate. Then comes the Great Mage. As great as he may be, no amount of magic will compare the years spent in the cold, ruthless battlefield, fighting for your life. You punch him as well, cutting him off from his magic. Hah, it'll only last for 10 minutes for him. What a joke. That's the "Great" Mage?

And as for the hero... well it's simply too late for him, too. You grab him by the throat, lifting him up into the air with ease. He struggles and chokes, but there's nothing that he can do. In the background, you hear something crack, then shatter, as the darkness is broken through by Sion's tenacity.

'You... the hell are you doing?'

"What are you..." Talking about? Does he not know about the plan? He's Boss' second favorite, and probably the actual favorite since Pillow's disappearance, so why wouldn't he know? You explain, all the while holding the hero up in the air. It's not like he's going to go anywhere. You just needed to make it seem like you saved the Great Mage in order to get their trust.

'That's news to me. ' Huh? 'That's why I was going to kill you for betraying us.' Are you fucking kidding--

"That shitty Boss... he was having fun telling meaningless lies again." You sigh, annoyed. "It's true that I hate him..."

In turn, Sion's eyes light up like stars: 'I see! This is that saying- To fool your enemies, you must first fool your friends! I'd expect no less from Boss!' With a bitter expression, you mumble that you think otherwise; you'd never want to betray your friends and Boss enjoys toying with you too much. Ugh, if only you could find a new job. But in the meantime you explain your handiwork, and when Sion expresses jealousy for not being able to do it, you smile and comfort him. It's all thanks to him that you could do it in the first place.

As the hero struggles, you make him realize the gravity of his situation. And throughout it, his gaze looks pained, confused as to why you would go and betray them. 'You said...' he chokes out. 'You wanted to save that Sion...'

Heh. Hehe. You smile, vacant yet whole-- "You sure are kind..." You snicker, squeezing the hero's throat. "Sorry, but I came to betray you all right from the start. But it's true that I wanted to save Sii-tan. It's just that the goal has already been achieved! Please, take it all in! How happy Sii-tan is now!"

Even if he doesn't look like it, behind his perpetual scowl, you know. You've seen him a his worst, catatonic on the bed and having given up on himself and the world around him. You know that this is an incredible improvement in comparison to how he used to be. Your smile grows, and you feel light. Elated. Manic. "When Boss came to our world and invited Sii-tan to come with him, I felt as though we had received the grace of God. One who had granted Sii-tan a will to live."

'Makura Cover.' Sion calls from behind, clearly tired of the exposition. You turn towards him, ready to go back to work. 'Hold that thing back until Boss returns. I'll kill these guys just to be safe.'

Hehe. You smile brightly at Sion, the man who has defined your world, and your entire raison d'etre. "Okay!"
